The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

Children are natural noticers. A snail on a wall, a puddle turned to ice, the first conker of the year — these small discoveries carry real weight for a five-year-old. The difficulty is that adult walks tend to be about getting somewhere. A short, purposeful pause to look at what has changed since last month can turn the same familiar route into something that feels new each time.
The trick is to give children a focus. Asking "what can you see?" usually produces "nothing". A specific question tied to the time of year works far better. Keep a note of what you spot and revisit the same path every few weeks. Over a year, that repeated route becomes a story your family knows by heart.
Spring is the easiest season for young explorers because so much changes so quickly. From late February onwards, look for:
A lovely spring project is to choose one tree and photograph it every fortnight. Children adore comparing the bare shot with the leafy one six months later, and it teaches patience better than any lecture.
Long evenings and warm weather make summer ideal for lingering rather than covering distance. Dawn and dusk are when most wildlife is active, so an after-tea wander often beats a midday hike.
Take a small pot and a magnifying glass. Lift a stone, examine a leaf, then put everything back exactly as you found it. That habit of gentle curiosity is worth more than any fact.
Autumn rewards children who like collecting, sorting and comparing. It is also the season when the change is most dramatic, which makes it perfect for building a year-on-year record.
Autumn is also the ideal time to plant bulbs together. The waiting is part of the pleasure.
Winter can feel like the hardest season to sell, but it offers something the others cannot: visibility. With trees bare, birds' nests, squirrels' dreys and the shapes of branches are suddenly easy to see.
Keep outings short and finish before anyone gets cold and miserable. Twenty focused minutes beats two hours of complaining.
The single most useful thing you can do is pick one local walk and return to it regularly. Same gate, same pond, same oak tree. Let your child keep a simple notebook — a drawing, a date, a word or two. It does not need to be neat.
A small kit helps: a magnifying glass, a couple of freezer bags, a pencil and a torch for winter afternoons. Dress for the weather, including wellies, and accept that someone will get muddy. That is usually the sign it has gone well.
Above all, let their interests lead. If your child becomes obsessed with worms, follow the worms. Seasonal noticing is not a curriculum to be completed; it is a habit of attention that will serve them for life, long after the conkers have been forgotten.
